X-treme Chics (n.) are fashionably elegant extreme female athletes competing in a raucous reality. Sol Shred Skim classifies "hardcore estrogen" to recognize & respect this new breed
of femininity. Together or individually these original goddesses release major estrus hormones whenever under pressure or in heat.
WARNING: If you snake them they will shred you!

S3 HISTORY
The idea of Sol Shred Skim (S3) has been in the making since Summer of 2002. Our story begins with two leaders who were united by ocean, passion & skimming. Arthur Walter & Jasmine Joy represent the foundation of S3. As mentors, they influenced their siblings (Alexandra Walter, Katrina & Gino Gonzalez) to follow their footprints in the sand & start skimboarding. These five brothers & sisters formed a skim family called: Da Shredders.
Da Shredders were Freestyle skimmers since they lived in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, CA. where the beaches are mostly flat. They would often gather, at least once a week, for skim sessions. Arthur taught Jasmine how to maneuver 360s & shuv-its. There was one specific episode which solidified their family name & foreshadowed the future . . .
It was an overcast day in Redondo Beach when Arthur & Jasmine's woody skimboards collided. They both thought there was enough space in between each other coming from opposite directions. A huge chunk of wood splintered from Jasmine's board & sliced her finger when she instantly picked it up. As blood oozed out of her shredded finger, she kept in mind that time would heal something so minor.
On August 28th of 2002, something major happened. Arthur was on his motorcycle heading toward his dojo to teach Kenpo Karate. A vehicle making a left turn onto PCH, in Manhattan Beach, cut-off Arthur's right of way. He hit the vehicle & was severely injured. A mild smirk was left on his peaceful face after he passed in the hospital.
Arthur was more than a soul mate. He was a Sol Skimmer --- a personification of our golden sun. The roots of Da S3 Family Tree start with Arthur & flourish through the tight family he left behind. His ashes were scattered over the Pacific on September 11, 2002. Arthur is one with the ocean & the protector of our sanctuary. The drive behind this company is dedicated to our late founder. Arthur Walter shall never be forgotten.
It is our purpose, as Da S3 Family, to share our "pono" (righteous) lifestyle with others who return love to their environment. Take care of your body & mind, pack your trash & respect the water in every form . . . this is your temple
Skim Evolution
Skimboarding is intimidating, intriguing, and incredibly gnarly! It is a thriving subculture of Southern California which has spread globally as an extremely competitive water sport. Most skimboarders consider their sport a hybrid between surfing and skateboarding. Laguna Beach is recognized as the Mecca of skimboarding. The earliest known skimboarders or "skimmers" date back to Laguna Beach lifeguards of the 1920s. Skimmers were towed behind horse drawn carriages while riding on big planks of plywood. This was possible because skimmers hydroplane on 1" to 2" of water which is really wet sand. Depending on a skimmer's level, the depth of wave-riding or freestyle tricks will vary.
Throughout the 1960s and 70s, almost everybody in Laguna from little groms (beach kids) to adults had a skimboard. This was the era when skimmers started to ride out to waves breaking close to shore because of the modern fiberglass board. One thing different from surfing is skimboarding starts on the beach . . .

This was the era when skimmers started to ride out to waves breaking close to shore because of the modern fiberglass board. One thing different from surfing is skimboarding starts on the beach . . .
The skimmer stands a short running distance from where the water meets dry sand and waits for a wave with board in hand. TIMING is the most vital component of skimboarding. When the tide comes in and the shorebreak is pitching just right, the skimmer runs toward the water dropping the board upon liquid to land on it one foot at a time (preferably, back foot first). In order to maintain or possibly gain speed, the skimmer should get on the board as fast as he/she can. The front foot is placed in between the middle and the nose of the board. Fiberglass or carbon boards with traction pads at the rear of the board provide an actual position for the back foot. Proper placement of the back foot is emphasized since it is where more of the skimmer's balanced weight will situate and take on a majority of the steering. A successful ride would entail the skimmer gliding out into the ocean toward an incoming wave and carving its crest back to shore.
Skim evolution saw a progression in the late 90s with a new-school age of tricks. The skateboarding influence of spinning and flipping boards started a "skim frenzy". Wooden boards, though still accepted, became primitive compared to fiberglass and carbon composites.
The millennium brought competition with new board manufacturers. Victoria Skimboards was the very first distributor in the market back in the 70s. Skimboarding, as a trend, fluctuated in popularity during its adolescent years when it was still being established. Now in its "growth stage" (due to industry standards), the extreme board sport is continuously earning an abundance of respect.
Sad to say, there will usually be HATERS in every walk of life. A better classification for this breed would be KOOKS. There are many annoying skim stereotypes; but these are the 3 most prominent: the obsolete observer, the snobby surfer, and the snaker.
The obsolete observer (or tourist) will watch all the skim action, become stunned, then just stand in a skimmer's runway not paying attention to the sharp edges sliding toward their direction. The snobby surfer has probably tried to skim once but ate major sand and will never attempt the sport again. These two stereotypes view life through a tunnel and have a difficult time accepting the hardcore symbolism in skimboarding. Maybe obsolete observers and snobby surfers are jealous of the stoked interaction portrayed by skimmers on shore. Who needs two hands to applaud when you have a skimboard to slap?
There is a difference between snakers and takers. A snaker would be Yin and a taker would be Yang. Takers are accepted because their whole hearts are in it to win it. They acknowledge their surroundings, don't hesitate in the lineup, and charge as they please. Expect instant camaraderie from a taker if ever snaked by one. They are genuinely a carefree kind. Takers skim to live while snakers live to skim. Takers have to skim for survival. Snakers find time to convince themselves they should skim. This is why they must snake without a trace of skim etiquette. They need the practice. Snakers with a desire to improve their manners could eventually evolve into takers. The primary sacrifice in transition of snaker to taker would be an arrogant ego.
Skimboarding has always seemed to be a predominately male sport. Every year the ratio of female skimboarders rises. Female skimmers compete in their own heat segments. A heat is the amount of time given for a group of skimmers to show off their best skills and impress the judges based on conditions. Amber Cottle was the first female to compete at a professional level in the men's division. Her time to shine was in the 80s when there were still contests held at Sandy Beach of O'ahu, HI.
Embracing women as extreme athletes has become a revolutionary movement apparent in the current generation. The market geared toward these ground-breaking females is excelling in demand for functional yet fashionable apparel. This is how
Sol Shred Skim (S3) found its niche and ultimate passion for such a lifestyle. As a developing SurfSk8Skim company, S3 will be referred to as an original trendsetter in fashion and attitude based on positive vibes. S3 has already made international connections with Japan, Mexico, and Australia within its preliminary year. The evolution of the skim subculture has been awaiting some form of innovation to step up its game. Sol Shred Skim is up to bat & plans to stay on deck till a grand slam is hit out of the field. Even then it won't end because there will always be time to enjoy the glide.
